The world is full of ubiquitous singularity.
The world is not a machine that can be set up, programed, and left alone; it’s a system that needs constant tinkering, and every problem has a unique solution. By understanding an intertwined world system we can be flexible and resilient enough to tackle and solve the crises, problems, and situations that arise. There is no silver bullet for the world’s problems. No solution will work exactly the same way in two places, every location is singular.
The world is an amazing place, everything is unique. The world is full of ubiquitous singularity.
Studio Projects
At University of Virginia I participated in six graduate studios with sites ranging from New York to Philadelphia, and New Delhi to Chongqing. These including residential, mixed use, commercial, and public space. My focus was often incorporating historic and culturally significant forms, materials, and concepts, as well as sustainable concepts and practices, to drive my designs.
Technological Experiments
Many of my non-studio projects I take on fall to the categories of technological fabrication interface. These side projects provide allow me to investigate specific technological issues, and have formed an acetic collection that includes 3D printing prototyping and fabrication, digital first person interface through 3D CAD software, and my undergraduate engineering senior design project of an autonomous underwater vehicle.
Travel Photography and Sketches
I have been incredibly fortunate and able to travel extensively and investigate various climates, cultures, built forms, and historical areas through a variety of programs, classes, and travel studios. My analysis of these areas have been documented by photos and sketches that strive to accentuate details, materiality, climate, lighting, and the human situation in the world.
History Work
My Architectural History work and research greatly informs my design philosophy; that sustainable design must take cues from historical technology and climate mediation, that a site's culture and history is as important to the derivation of from as is materiality. Here I collect papers and abstracts from my academic career that addresses these topics as well as others.
